Clay and Metals

My newest work is mixing old rusted metal objects purchased at antique barns or found along the way.

Recycling and the preservation of the earth is of high priority. These pieces use a basic stoneware clay body or porcelain. My new work involves and combines the interface of clay and metal. Both of these substances are found in the natural environment and can be transformed through fire into objects of a creative endeavor. This work is a representation of the interface of form and function. In Laminabolitio the bowl form is united with old rusted metal teeth from a machine that dug into the earth. These teeth serve as the feet of the bowl in addition to their decorative quality. Transforming the function of the metal teeth together with reinterpretation of the function of a bowl, gives the viewer a new sense of how the world can be seen.
